The Monastery of Whirling Dervishes

The monastery of Whirling Dervishes was established in 1492 by one of the direct descendant of Mevlana, Sheyh Muhammed, a great mystic and religious figure. The Semahane, the hall where the dervishes performed their sema in the Ottoman centuries, is now used for the display of poems of mystic poets, manuscripts, objects used by the dervishes. From time to time, sema, the ritual dance of Whirling dervishes are performed there.

The Pera Palace Hotel

This impressive building which was built in 1892 by Wagon Lit company to accommodate the clients of Orient Express still serves as hotel in the Old Pera district of Istanbul. Some reputed figures were guest at the Pera Palace Hotel. Among them, one can mention Mustafa Kemal Ataturrk, the founder of Turkish Republic who stayed in the room no.101; Mata Hari, room 104; Agatha Christie, the wtiter of many famous novel, the Murder on the Orient Express. One can still enjoy the fine architecture of the Pera Palace, have an excellent dinner at its restaurant or have a drink at the Orient Bar.
