ORIENT EXPRESS STATION

This impressive building, which was built by German architect Jachmund in 1870, was perfect example of Islamic eclecticism, introduced by the European architects who were asked to design several major buildings in the city. This impressive structure with rose windows, clock towers and horses she arches combines Neo-classical style with Islamic style.

Initial run of Orient Express was in 1883 between Paris and Bucharest from where passengers reached Istanbul via Gurguli. Maiden trip by train to Istanbul, then the capital of the Ottoman Empire arrived on 12 August 1888. Regular trips of Orient Express continued for 9 years. Many famous figures of Europe traveled with Orient Express.

This was the terminus of the Orient Express journey that started from Paris and run down to Istanbul and lasted 68 hours. Shortly after its opening, Orient Express' luxurious and legendary twice-weekly trips of started.
