THE CIRAGAN PALACE

The site of Ciragan palace drew attention of members of Royal family as early as 17th century when this location became the part of Imperial Gardens. Various palaces belonging Ottoman family members followed each other on the site. The most notable palace among these former palaces Cýragan Palace. Located on European side of Boshorus, Ciragan Palace was built by Sultan Abdulaziz.

Yildiz Park

A short distance beyond the Ciragan Palace, there is entrance of Yildiz Park which was the former Imperial Gardens of Ciragan and Yildiz Palaces. On the right side of the entry, there is a mosque built by Sultan Abdulmecit in 1848.

Feriye Police Station

Feriye Police station, which was built to provide security in the area from Dolmabahce to Feriye Palaces, was abandoned to its fates when these services were no longer required. It has been recently restored to its former glory and turned into cultural center.

ORTAKOY

During the Byzantine period, the town was called Ayios Phocas after the church of the saint which stood there. In recent years, Ortakoy became art-and-crafts center and meeting place of young people. In addition to its restored houses, it has many attractive restaurants and cafee houses. During the spring and summer mounth, booksellers and craftsman set up their stalls.

Ortakoy mosque

This elegant mosque which was built by architect Nigogos Balyan during the rule of Sultan Abdulmecit between 1854 and 1855 replaced the former mosque of the Mehmet Aga dating to 18th century. This attractive building which is known as Grand Mediciye mosque, presents the features of Baroque and Rokoko styles. Ortakoy Mosque was often visited by the Ottoman Sultans who came there for Friday prayers. In addition to Ortakoy mosque, three monuments deserve our attention; a 19th century Greek Ortodox church, 20th century Jewish Synagogue and Turkish bath built by Sinan in 1570.

Bosphorus Bridge

The first bridge which connects Asia and Europa was built by Freeman Fox & Partners and Petek company between the years of 1970 and 1973. This bridge which is 1074 meters long is suspended between two giant piers each 165 meters high. Six lanes of traffic hovers 64 meters over the strait of Bosphorus.
